IM taking AutoCad 1 and just started my spring semester. I loaded AutoCad trial version 5 days ago in my home computer. Over the weekend my computer locked up, and the only way to correct the problem was to format my 'C' drive and reinstall my original software. In the process my AutoCad program was wiped out. I then tried to reload and was told the program was expired.

I have gone through all of this before. Formatting your hard drive does not remove everything. The guys at Autodesk are writing a little file somewhere on your hard drive (they don't put the file in the MBR since that is relatively easy to fix if you have a backup).

The only way to reinstall the trial version to get the full 30 days worth is to find a program from your hard drive manufacturer that will write Zeros to sector of the hard drive. You MUST use the utility from the hard drive manufacturer, if you don't you might completely screw your hard drive. Quantum's utility is called ZeroFill, Western Digital's utility is called Data LifeGuard (for the newer drives, if you have an older one (they will tell you which drives LifeGuard works with) you will have to dig around on their site to find the stand alone utility, IBM also has a utility like LifeGuard but I don't remember the name of the program. I'm sure that most other manufacturers have similar utilities, but these are only the ones that I have used.
